At the Leslie Hardinge Library, we support and promote the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic research and education. As AI technologies continue to evolve, they offer powerful tools for data analysis, content generation, and problem-solving. However, their use in academic contexts must be carefully managed to ensure ethical, legal, and educational standards are upheld. These guidelines are designed to help patrons use AI in alignment with the mission of AIIAS in developing leaders through distinctively Seventh-day Adventist graduate education excelling in spirituality, scholarship, and service.
Ethical AI Use
AI should be used ethically in academic contexts. It must not be used for deception, plagiarism, or violating academic integrity. All AI-generated work must be properly attributed to maintain honesty and uphold AIIAS’s values of scholarship and service.
AI in Research
AI is a valuable tool for research, but users must:
- Disclose AI usage in studies.
- Ensure data privacy and security.
- Validate AI-generated results critically.
AI in Education
AI enhances learning by providing tools for personalized education. Students and faculty should:
- Use AI to supplement, not replace, their work.
- Adhere to copyright laws and fair use when using AI-generated content.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate AI in ways that encourage critical thinking and creativity.
Responsible AI Use
AI tools should be used responsibly. Users must:
- Understand AI limitations and avoid over-reliance.
- Respect intellectual property and avoid violating copyright laws.
- Apply critical thinking alongside AI tools.
AI Resources at the Library
The library provides awareness talks and workshops on AI-powered research tools and their responsible use. Books are also available to patrons to borrow and access.
Legal Compliance
AI use must comply with AIIAS’s academic policies and local laws, including those on copyright, data privacy, and research ethics.
The library encourages responsible AI use in research and education to support the mission of AIIAS. For more information on AI resources or guidance on AI in research, visit our Generative AI in Research page.
